Season 5, Episode 13 - Her Heart: Bell’s Diagnosis
Monday Feb 07, 2022
Monday Feb 07, 2022
Welcome to another episode of #TheResidentRulebreakers!
Camille is back, and she has a question for our listeners: Does her voice sound different?
-
This week, we discuss episode 5x11, "Her Heart".
Written by Marc Halsey & Eric Lu; Directed by Kelli Williams
-
Topics of discussion:
- Bell's diagnosis - and how getting proper treatment for his MS will still allow him to live a normal and productive life to the point of him performing surgery again. We are also excited to see how he navigates his journey of this new diagnosis.
- How living with disabilities our entire lives allow both of us to see this from a different POV and talk about how #TheResident has a platform to help erase the stigma the disabled community has on it as a whole by showing Bell living a productive life despite his disability.
- #KitBell - and how Kit doesn't let Bell push her away after his diagnosis
- Jake and Sammie return - but we miss Gregg
- Lunar New Year and how amazing it was to show this part of Asian culture to the viewers - especially since the airdate was February 1 - the date of Lunar New Year in 2022.
- Sammie and Gigi's connection is adorable
- Nic's heart returns in the chest of her organ donor - and also brings with it a conflict of interest for Conrad. We can't say we didn't shed a few tears when Conrad and Gigi listen to the heart though.
- Leela's Surgical Rotation - and if it was right of Billie to note to Leela that if she chose this specialty that her chance of having kids would be disrupted. It's not up to Devon. It's ultimately up to Leela.
- #Deela - We love how supportive they are of each other - which is why Kayla believes that Devon will support Leela in whatever specialty she chooses.
- Devon's Clinical Trial starts - and AJ tries to get his mom in it. When Devon says she doesn't qualify - AJ gets angry and ultimately sticks Conrad on him to get him to change his mind. Conrad eventually sides with Devon. Carol is actually relieved that she doesn't have to endure the trial. We feel this storyline will be very emotional going forward.
- Cade Has No Past - and when Irving enquires to Cade about her lack of online presence, she just shrugs it off. Words from producers make us think we will know very soon why.
- Cade learns about Nic's death - and shows sympathy for Conrad.

-
Topics Discussed:
- Conrad's grief and how a patient helps him get closure about Nic's death

- Devon and AJ have a patient who thinks he's haunted by ghosts - and it turns out he needed surgery to remove a growth near his heart

- Kit being Mary Poppins for Halloween is epic. Who thought up this costume? Amazing!

Next week: Episode 5x05 Discussion - "The Thinnest Veil"
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Monday Oct 11, 2021
Season 5, Episode 4 - The Long and Winding Road: Goodbye Nic
Monday Oct 11, 2021
Monday Oct 11, 2021
This week, Kayla and Camille are joined by Michelle, a fellow #TheResident fan who has been a nurse for 23 years and is in school to get her masters in nursing, to discuss episode 5x03 of #TheResident - "The Long and Winding Road" and to pay tribute to Nic and Emily.
We get her perspective on how Emily's portrayal of Nic highlighted the nursing community on a medical drama - something that just isn't shown often.
Written by: Joy Blake; Directed by: Rob Corn
-
Episode Discussion:
- The hero walk and the music used over the scene being a proper send off to Nic and Emily
- Why recasting Nic wouldn't work
- Kudos to Matt on his acting in this episode - he needs all the awards!
- Nic saves lives, even in her death
- Nic's organs are donated after her death - and her trachea ends going to one of her former patients who was suffering from the symptoms of long haul Covid.
- How #TheResident uses a plot line like organ donation to bring real change to the world
- Will Conrad find the answers about what happened to Nic?
- Emotional attachment to a patient and why a nurse or doctor can't treat a loved one
- Since Billie or Conrad couldn't perform the tests needed to confirm Nic's diagnosis - they chose Devon to do it. We're so glad Devon was there for Conrad - and that Hundley and Jessica were there as well.
- Kyle's reaction to Nic's death - and should he apologize to Conrad for lashing out at him in anger?
- Gigi seeing the helicopter and saying "Ma ma"
- #KitBell's postponed date - and why it needs to be postponed for now
- Will we get to see Nic's funeral/memorial service?
-
Thank you, Emily for the past four years of bringing Nic to life. We wish you well in your future endeavors and send our love to you, Josh and Iris.

Next week: Episode 5x04 Discussion - "Now What??"

Monday Oct 04, 2021
Season 5, Episode 3 - No Good Deed: Saving Devon
Monday Oct 04, 2021
Monday Oct 04, 2021
In this episode of #TheResidentRulebreakers, Kayla and Camille discuss episode 5x02 of #TheResident - titled "No Good Deed".
Written by Andrew Chapman; Directed by Kelli Williams
-
Episode Discussion Topics:
- Devon gets found unconscious in an elevator on the roof - How did he get there - especially since he went to the basement to search for Winston.
- They figure out he was poisoned by hydrogen sulfide gas after his scans come back and start treating him.
- We ask - why did it take so long to find Winston? It took Conrad retracing Devon's steps to figure out what happened. We are both glad Winston and Devon both survived this.
- If we were Winston - a lawsuit would be happening. Did his disability cause issues with his care? We discuss that too.
- Also, what happened to the tech and the receptionist? Are they ok?
- #Deela
- Leela knew something was wrong with Devon and came to work searching for him. Turns out, she was right. Devon's life being in danger pushes Leela to declare she's not leaving his side again and agrees to move in with Devon. We like this more than we thought we would.
- #CoNic
- Conrad also knows something is off when Nic doesn't answer his calls and texts and she is due back from her trip soon. This is confirmed by the episode's cliffhanger when police show up to deliver the news we are all dreading to hear - Nic has been in an accident. Kudos to Matt on his acting in this scene.
- We also discuss how this cliffhanger will be the topic of episode 5x03 - "The Long and Winding Road". The promo. The photos. Everything.
- #KitBell/#Kitdolph
- Bell tries to apologize to Kit for asking her out at the end of episode 5x01 - "Da Da". However, Kit is so busy she puts him off doing it.
- Bell offers to take a few things off her plate - like hiring Cain's replacement. Turns out, Bell gets red flags on the guy and was right. Guy was disaster waiting to happen. Bell tells Kit as such. Whew, glad that's over.
- Kit asks Bell out for Italian food at the end of the episode - and we are here for it.
- Billie's past comes to light
- Billie's son, Trevor, shows up at the ER with his friend who is OD'ing. The team saves her, but she has complications.
- Due to these complications, Billie has to operate on Trevor's friend and AJ learns the truth of the connection between them.
- AJ steps in to help both Billie and Trevor through it in different ways - and doesn't reveal the truth of why Billie doesn't want contact with Trevor through it all. A real friend. AJ is now Billie's secret keeper. More of AJ and Billie, please.
- Irving is so blunt - a side to him we rarely get to see

Season 4, Episode 7 - The Dance: Devon Doesn‘t Get Married
Monday Sep 06, 2021
Monday Sep 06, 2021
In this episode of The Resident Rulebreakers, Kayla and Camille discuss episode 2x09 - "The Dance", as well as all the recent news about Emily VanCamp.
Written by Amy Holden Jones and Andrew Chapman, Directed by Rob Corn.
Original Airdate: November 26, 2018
-
Recent News:
- Emily and her husband, Josh, had a baby girl that they named Iris. Actual birthdate is unknown.
- After revealing she has given birth, news broke that Emily has decided to leave The Resident, which leaves fans wondering what happens to Nic.
- The new promo released in the past week somewhat hints at the route the show will probably take with Nic's fate.
- Amy Holden Jones reveals that Rob Corn is the director of 5x01.
- There is no official press release or photos from Fox yet for the premiere - but we predict that that information will be revealed SOON.
-
Episode 2x09 Discussion:
- Devon Doesn't Get Married
- Since before the pilot, Devon has been engaged to Priya - now it's time to get married.
- Devon has second thoughts after his infamous kiss with Julian and a conversation with his mom.
- He decides to call off the wedding - which causes Devon and Priya to have one last fight where we believe both had valid reasons for feeling how they felt.
- The wedding outfits designed for this episode were so beautiful.
- Irving as best man and Bradley as a groomsman. *LOVE IT!*
- As much as Julian didn't want to be the reason Devon doesn't marry Priya - she is THE reason - and there's no denying that she didn't willingly accept being kissed by Devon.
- We also both agree that if it had happened, a divorce would have also happened very soon after - especially with Priya deciding to work on the west coast.
- Julian
- In 2x08 - Julian comes to the realization that QuoVadis is a fraudulent company and she decides not only to quit her job, but blow the whistle on it to the FDA.
- In one of the episode's cliffhangers, Julian is ran off the road by Gordon Page's henchmen - and leaves us hanging for 9 episodes wondering what happened to her. We are very glad they resolved this plot.
- Marshall
- Marshall reveals he has Chron's Disease after he has a flare up that causes him to need emergency surgery - and the doctor on call is Bell. An option both Marshall and Conrad dislike.
- This is the other cliffhanger for the episode - and while Marshall survives the surgery, his conversation with Conrad about Conrad's mother is one that after all this time still hasn't been resolved. We'd love to see this storyline have closure.
- Nic is the push for Conrad to talk to Marshall - and we are all for it.
- The Old Man
- Conrad, AJ and Mina treat an older man who has a heart murmur.
- Conrad envies the relationship the man has with his daughter and grandson - and makes that point to Nic very clearly.
- AJ and Mina do surgery to repair the murmur and make it to Devon's "wedding" with time to spare.
- The man just wants to get back to his charity work in Nicaragua.
- The Free Clinic
- Nic and Mina are trying to get Bell on board with the free clinic - especially since Chastain has to do community outreach to remain tax exempt.
- Kayla wishes they would bring a form of the free clinic back - but wonders how it would work now that Chastain is a public hospital.
- Micah
- Run, Micah, Run. If we were him - we'd run after hearing the comments Mina makes about marriage and having kids in this episode. Kind of ironic he proposes to her 5 episodes later - thankfully he realized it wasn't going to work out.
- Grayson
- Loved seeing Grayson in this episode, but seeing him makes us really want him to return to The Resident as Kit's assistant.
- Bell
- Bell is working hard to make sure Chastain doesn't have its image damaged by Lane Hunter who is blackmailing him with a sex tape for her bail money.
- Unfortunately, Bell goes to Gordon Page for the bail money and the hospital goes bankrupt because of it. This storyline finally was resolved this past season with Chastain going public. Seriously, Bell? What were you thinking?
- We don't miss this version of Bell at all.

- "Broken Heart Syndrome" and the "Heart in a Box" surgery
- #CoNic
- Despite working opposite sifts, they make time for each other
- Nic also worries Conrad is too attached to Henry
- Henry
- Has a seizure playing baseball and they put him on a third drug which triggers QuoVadis to ask Julian to pitch the VNS to Henry's mom - we wonder if this actually happens.
- Conrad is against the VNS - but Zoey is desperate to see her son not have seizures. Especially since she has already lost one son. QuoVadis manipulated Zoey into this.
- Kayla reminds everyone this is the extreme situation of Epilepsy and surgery is a last resort. Meds are the first go to always. She also rants about them calling seizure meds toxic - not all of them are - but also what is the alternative to them - a very unlivable life.
- Julian learns the truth about QuoVadis
- Lane Hunter's return and her blackmailing Bell with a sex tape to get out of jail
- Devon's horrible day
- He has a racist patient, gets thrown up on and punched by a meth head, but still loves his job because it's his calling.
- His personal life is in shreds. He decides to stay in Atlanta instead of follow Priya to San Francisco - but also can't stop thinking of Julian. This is the last nail in the coffin for the Devon/Priya relationship.
- Camille has a rant about racism and healthcare.

In this discussion:
- Jessie and her friend, John, participate in a drug trial - with horrible consequences
- This is the start of Jessie's health issues that eventually kill her at the end of the season. John dies in this episode and Bell giving the death notice makes Kayla cry.)
- Oh, and good Bell begins to show up
- Conrad was there for Nic through it all, which proves how strong they are - and the writers forgot this later in the season
- Devon and Julian kiss
- And we both ask - WTF?!?!? It's all that's needed here
- The Bollywood Dance/Devon's "Bachelor Party"/The Bar
- A botched Bachelor Party turns in a night of karaoke and Bollywood dancing at the bar
- After a comment from Kit about Bell getting a high end prostitute - we are reminded that Bell was arrested for solicitation earlier in the season
- Metal Joint Replacements Can Kill You
- There's a PSA in this plot to say know what your surgeon is putting in you when you get a joint replacement - because a metal one can poison you from the inside out
- We Miss Bad Ass Mina
- The Mina of this episode is the one we will miss the most. Especially the lines like "Don't call me Princess" or "I'm not your Queen"
- Also, we love how she introduced Conrad and AJ to her hip replacement patient

- Production has started on season 5! Check out the Facebook group for BTS from the cast and Amy from set.
- No official premiere date set yet! We expect it to be a few more weeks before we know - but just know we are still predicting the one of the last two Tuesdays in September.
- We hit 15,000 downloads since we started the podcast in the past two weeks! We also had 1,000 downloads in just 54 days. Thanks for the continued support.
-
Topics we discuss from episode 2x05 are:
- Meet the Barnetts (and we recall events from our childhoods that allow us to connect to both Henry and Jasper)
- The Chastain crew comes through for the Barnett family and makes Jasper's birthday wish come true and a cherished memory for his mom and brother (We cry so hard when Jasper dies. *bawl eyes out*)
- Kit and AJ agree on something (they hate being forced to use devices they know nothing about)
- AJ accidentally fractures an arm bone and has to wear a splint (Malcolm's performance of the scene where it happens never fails to make us laugh during such a sad episode)
- A Gilmore Girls connection - Emily Kuroda (Mrs. Kim) guest stars as Penny - Kit's patient
- Bradley's back for a heart valve (and his reaction to AJ is hilarious)
- Devon and Julian (Bradley and Mina know something is up and they don't like it)
- There's a hint that Jessica and Irving's relationship has already begun when Jessica provides a set of fully functioning handcuffs for the police party for Jasper
- We're ok with #CoNic being in the background in this episode (sometimes their relationship really takes over the show)
-
Upcoming:
August 9 - Episode 2x07 Discussion - "Trial and Error"
August 23 - Episode 2x08 Discussion - "Heart in a Box"
September 6 - Episode 2x09 Discussion - "The Dance"
*The podcast will return to a weekly podcast when the show returns in September.

Monday Jun 28, 2021
In this episode of The Resident Rulebreakers, we discuss episode 2x02 of The Resident, "The Prince and the Pauper".
Written by Amy Holden Jones and Andrew Chapman; Directed by Nicole Rubio
-
- Mina & Micah (& AJ)
- #CoNic and their cute rooftop date night
- Julian's first appearance - and how we knew then that Priya and Devon were doomed
- Bell gets arrested for solicitation - and doesn't self report it to the state medical board. We also talk about his amazing character growth since this episode to what he is today.
- Devon and his med school students - and how much we miss Ezra
- Marshall wants Conrad's opinions and input and Bell hates it - he also takes advice from Nic about starting community outreach with the free clinic.
- The parallels of their families having money changes everything for two young kids with diabetes. Jack survives and gets excellent care, Abby is rationing her insulin - and ends up in the ICU in diabetic coma.
- The crisis of how expensive insulin is in America - a 1200% increase in price and the drug never changed.
- The mantra of profits over patients - and how they illustrated this not only with the insulin - but the air transport companies as well.

Season 4, Episode 1 - What We Want to See in Season 5
Monday Jun 14, 2021
Monday Jun 14, 2021
In this podcast, we discuss our wishes for the plot of the upcoming season of The Resident - which will begin airing air this fall on FOX.
-
We also have some news items we needed to talk about:
- THIS IS OUR 60TH PODCAST.
- 60 podcasts. 4 seasons - and we're ready for more!
- Anuja Joshi promoted to series regular for season 5.
- Manish's birthday is June 17 - we send him some birthday love!
- Pride Month
- Juneteenth
-
Our comprehensive list of wishes for season 5 that included many listener wishes as well as some of our own:
- Progression on the storylines of the female characters outside of their romantic relationships.
- Jessica and Irving deserve a more fleshed out storyline (#Feldmore)
- Chu and Nurse Hundley deserve more fleshed out storylines
- Many #CoNic fans felt let down by how they portrayed Gigi's birth - and would love a flashback to when Nic was in active labor (This was a fan request)
- We don't want Gigi to grow up too fast - but what logistics will come into play about how much we see her or how fast they speed up her growth? Will we see #CoNic struggle as new parents?
- The grandpa brigade - more Marshall and Kyle PLEASE
- Kit being a badass CEO and a mentor to characters like Billie and Leela.
- A Christmas episode would be nice - we loved the other holiday episodes they have done
- Big Pharma is probably the villain of the season - and we are cautious to see what they do with it. Will they take the show back to its roots? Will interesting cases come of it?
- Less rushed storylines - and we know this season will be longer so we hope they let the plots naturally flow and not rush them for time.
- Progession on #Kitdolph - but we expect will they/won't they - and are kinda ok with it.
- Character growth on all the characters - especially career wise
- Jake, Gregg, Sammie and Grandpa Bell - Also needed for the LGBT representation the show needs
- Make Conrad more flawed as doctor - and fill some holes in about his mom's death
- Billie's arc with her son wraps FAST, and she can move on from her trauma
- Nic dealing with post partum depression - would be amazing if they could highlight this issue so many women face
- Many listeners beg that no more actors leave the show this season.

Monday May 31, 2021
Season 3, Episode 17 - Doors Opening, Doors Closing: Heartbreak at Chastain
Monday May 31, 2021
Monday May 31, 2021
This week, we decided to talk about episode 4x09, "Doors Opening, Doors Closing" - as Kayla was still sick with long haul Covid when the episode originally aired - and we couldn't record the podcast. This podcast will be the last episode in season 4 that we discuss - as all the others have podcasts already.
We were both reminded how mad we got after seeing this episode - and we didn't hold back either.
-
Episode 4x09 was written by Jen Klein & Joshua Troke, Directed by Li Lu
-
- Our anger over Tina's parents' homophobia and heartbreak for Jake and Gregg not getting to adopt the baby they had put so much effort planning for.
- We're so glad they got to adopt Sammie - we hope to see more of them in season 5 as they provide much needed LGBTQ+ representation that The Resident needs.
- Also, we talk about the anger this storyline made us feel - and how un-Christian it is to hate anyone.
- Kayla notes her background of being raised in deep south - in the bible belt - and in the Southern Baptist Church (though she's not religious anymore) - and notes the last thing that she was taught was to hate anyone.
- Irving and Jessica's wedding
- We feel let down by the writers with the #Feldmore wedding
- The wedding feels like it was dropped in last minute when the writers realized they promised another wedding - and were running out of room to have it in the show this season.
- We love Tasso and Jessica - and they deserved a better wedding than their characters got - especially since they've both been around since the pilot.
- However, we love the fact that they used the Georgia Aquarium on the show as a location. It's one of Kayla's favorite places in Atlanta.
- Will the fact that they are married ever come back up? Do better writers!
- Devon meets his match(maker)
- An Indian matchmaker named Myra arrives in the ER (due to texting and driving) and she zones in on Devon as a potential client. He's hesitant at first - but it turns out that Nadine is married and has had a baby in a very short amount of time. Devon agrees to one free match - which just happened to be Leela.
- We note why we don't like the Devon/Leela pairing again - hoping that the writers listen and give Leela some substance and growth before making her Devon's love interest if that is what they plan to do.
- Jessica coming in the room with Devon and Myra and telling Myra about Devon's relationship fails is our favorite scene of the episode.
- PSA of the episode: Don't text and drive - it's not worth your life - or getting injured.
- Mina makes her decision
- The gang tries everything to get Mina's visa renewed so she can stay, but she ultimately decides to go back to Nigeria to help her mother before she can be deported.
- AJ wants to go with her - but we know he stays behind in the next episode to care for his own mother.
- Also, Shaunette asked to leave and this was the best option to write her out.
- Malcolm loves being on the show - and we are excited to see where the new season takes AJ.
- We will miss the #Minator tension in the OR scenes though.
- #Kitdolph
- They are the cutest aren't they? We love how supportive they are of each other - and can't wait to see more of them!
- Kayla clears up her will they/won't they statement from last week's podcast.
- #CoNic
- They were in the background this episode - and we were ok with that. They don't need to be front and center every episode.
- When did paint colors begin sounding like desserts?

Season 3, Episode 16 - Past, Present, Future: Chastain Family Grows
Monday May 24, 2021
Monday May 24, 2021
In this week's The Resident Rulebreakers, Camille and Kayla talk about episode 4x14 - "Past, Present, Future" - the season 4 finale.
-
- We talk about what we dub as "baby gate" - which is the show's use of a doll in place of the #CoNic baby (aka Georgiana Grace "Gigi" Nevin Hawkins) due to a Covid restriction and the reaction it got from the fandom (to the point of eclipsing the other news of the week). We defend the use of the doll under the circumstances the show was handed, and also note that Amy Holden Jones has promised a real baby next season.
- The show got renewed for season 5!!! The show will return this fall to its normal timeslot - Tuesday at 8 pm ET/PT for a full season run.
- Morris is leaving the show to be the lead for another show on Fox - but will recur as Cain for a few episodes next season - we predict to wrap up his storyline.
- Shaunette cast across from Harrison Ford in new Indiana Jones movie.
- We hit 14,000 downloads this past week - and are so grateful for all the support!!!
- Happy belated birthday to Matt - who turned 44 this past Thursday.
-
Episode 4x14 was written by Amy Holden Jones and Andrew Chapman, directed by Rob Corn.
-
- The birth of the #CoNic baby
- Camille predicted her name - and nickname
- "Baby gate" - and the BTS of it all
- We love the grandpa brigade - and how they make us miss our own grandfathers - who have all passed away
- AJ's mom
- She had a tumor in her spine that her treatment healed but now she is numb below the waist and is having issues walking.
- Cain comes into the OR to help Kit and Billie last minute - despite his issues with AJ. A relief to us - and AJ! We can't believe it either.
- Poor AJ - we sure hope his mom survives this. We can't see him put through the ringer anymore.
- Cain leaving
- Cain takes meeting for a job at John's Hopkins - a way for them to write Morris out.
- Still with Rose - guessing she's going with him
- Kit's moral dilemma
- Devon's friend Phillip sales Bio South to a Big Pharma company because it was so successful in healing Rose. Devon and Conrad aren't happy - and neither is Kit - however Chastain is now $900 million in the black. Is it good or bad? This seems to be where season 5 will go with the show's villain.
- #Kitdolph
- We need them now - but predict they will stay will they/won't they for some time to come. However - we just loved Bell comforting Kit after she realizes the moral implications of saving Chastain - as well as her being there for Bell when Sammie was being adopted.
- Jake, Gregg and Sammie become a family
- Due to Bell pulling some strings - Sammie is adopted by Jake and Gregg in an emotional in hospital ceremony that made us both cry. We so hope to see them again next season!
- Also, how cute is grandpa Bell?
- The Domino Transplant
- Jake's friend and Leela's friend both need livers but there aren't enough to go around - so they do a Domino transplant to save two lives.
- Devon feels great about being able to help so many people - and sees the ghost of his dad knowing that due to his grief he was able to do some good in more than one life that day.
- Leela and Devon
- We knew it was going here - but why? Leela is so strong and amazing on her own - and also Devon's intern. We really hoped for more development on her own. We don't want her to just be Devon's love interest because she deserves so much more than that.
- Billie meets her son
- Billie's son shows up on her doorstep in the episode's cliffhanger - and we seriously hope that the storyline won't be dragged out next season. It's a storyline we'd love to see wrapped quickly in season 5.
-
Did this episode feel like a series finale instead of a season finale? It was written and taped months ago - so the chances are they wanted to play it safe incase renewal didn't come through.
-
Upcoming Podcasts:
- May 31 - Episode 4x09 Discussion - "Doors Opening, Doors Closing" Discussion
(Kayla was sick when it aired - so we didn't get to do the podcast that week - so we decided to go ahead and do it since it's the only episode from season 4 we haven't done.)

Season 3, Episode 15 - Finding Family/A Children's Story: Billie's Secret
Monday May 17, 2021
Monday May 17, 2021
This week on The Resident Rulebreakers, we discuss The Resident episode 4x13 - "Finding Family"/"A Children's Story". Different websites are giving it different names, so we are giving you both, just to be safe.
Written by Marc Halsey and Anthony Chin-Quee
Directed by Kelli Williams
-
- Billie throws Nic a baby shower - and we love that Kyle and Marshall wanted to be involved. Also, this baby is already loaded and hasn't even been born yet thanks to Marshall's gift.
- Billie gives #CoNic pictures of their moms to put in the baby's room - and for the first time we learn their names - Georgianna (Conrad's mom) and Grace (Nic's mom). We think the baby will be named after the grandmothers - and we both love that idea. However, why did it take so long their names to be revealed?
- Nic goes into labor!! The baby is on it's way!!
- Billie reveals a secret to Nic about her past - she was raped when she was 13 and gave birth to a baby boy who she put up for adoption. Nic's been sworn to secrecy, but will this secret come out soon, especially now that he is 18 and contacting Billie about meeting. Something Billie has no want in doing. We both understand her reasons - but feel there's more to this story to come. Will Billie have a change of heart with #CoNic's baby being born soon - or will there be a plot twist?
- Leela and Devon help a man who was injured helping his tenants out of their building when it catches fire. The man is operated on by AJ and Leela, but doesn't survive the night. Leela doing heart compressions reminds us of Devon from the pilot. Also, we love their heart to heart about needing to get emotional to do the best job they can do - but we still are against them dating.
- Rose is dating Cain - and Devon hates it. He gets good advice on this from Conrad because it's none of his business who Rose dates - just that her sickle cell isn't flaring up. Devon also dumps Rose on Conrad for most of this episode. Seriously, Dev?
- Rose is CURED!! Yay!
- This episode was dedicated to a patient of Daniela's that inspired this character who lost her life to sickle cell before this cure could be found.
- AJ's mom sees progress in her treatment as well - but for how long??
- Sammie has to have another surgery - this time on her bowels - to allow her to eat.
- We learn Jake and Gregg are adopting her, and we love it but are cautious cause Sammie's been so sick and she's almost a pre teen. We, however, love grandpa Bell bringing her food from AJ's dad's restaurant - which is something from her culture.
- Her English is also improving a lot.
- We miss Kit.
- Jane taped for the episode - but it was left on the cutting room floor. :(
-

Emily's Birthday is also May 12th. We wish her a very happy birthday!
-
Episode Discussion:
- #CoNic and the spa day
- #CoNic help Pete get treatment for a vitamin C deficiency - and also get him surgery for his liver courtesy of Bell and Leela
- AJ yells at Leela in the OR - and she learns a lesson on how to release her frustration from Kit in the supply room. Also, Bell steps in as her temporary mentor.
- AJ also apologizes to Leela and gives her an olive branch - a major turning point on the episode.
- Kit's under strain from Marshall and the board to get the hospital's debt under control, but in the midst of it all she and Marshall save Phillip's company after his research shows promise in helping cure Rose.
- Rose's setback isn't what we expected and we are pleasantly surprised it's not the drug causing her issues. We also both relate to a time in our own pasts when a medical issue made us lose hope to see that there was a cure in sight. Also, who saw Cain as the person to get her to accept treatment??
- AJ's mom's treatment - and we question if it's the best idea. Is prolonging her life in hope for a cure that currently doesn't exist something that should happen. Nonetheless, it's nice seeing AJ with his parents.
- Cain's mental block in the OR - and Billie covering for him again. When will he get the help he needs?
- Also - why isn't there a Conrad/Marshall scene - I mean his granddaughter is coming soon. It's a missed opportunity.
-
Upcoming Podcasts

This week, we discuss episode 4x11 - "After the Storm" - and before you ask why they didn't take cover faster - Kayla explains tornado season in the south - and also they used it to add drama to the show.
-
Written by Peter Elkoff and Eric I Lu
Directed by Pablo Gomez Castro
-
- The ramifications of the tornado
- #CoNic save their baby chicks from the rain before heading to work. Conrad protects Nic and the baby during the storm - but ends up with an injured shoulder which he shrugs off until Nic reprimands him for it, but stitches him up anyways. Nic decides to go on maternity leave.
- Sammie and her surgery - we loved her connection to Jake. What we think will happen to her.
- Devon and Leela perform brain surgery with power tools on the electrician putting new lights in the SIM Lab. Camille says it reminds her of a Grey's Anatomy episode. We both note we are against Devon and Leela dating, but loved their teamwork in this episode - as well as the show highlighting Leela working through her dyslexia and Devon helping her with it. Also, she kicked everyone's butt at darts when they went to get drinks.
- Cain and Billie help Rose after she falls in the bathroom - and Billie gets Cain to be vulnerable for once.
- The paramedic that died after having her leg amputated by Kit.
- Also, please more screen time for Kit! We miss the kick ass surgeon.
- Is Mina being written more emotional now that Shaunette has left the show? What's with that note she left for Nic and the heart emojis she's sending to AJ? I get she's half a world away - but just doesn't sound like Mina.
-
May is AAPI Awareness month - so we are bringing more awareness to AAPI this month - especially since Camille is Filipino and we have a few cast members who are also AAPI.
This week, we want to bring awareness to the Covid crisis in India. They have more people dying than they have room or supplies. Please help by donating to https://www.giveindia.org/.
-
May is also Camille's birthday month (May 12) - so in honor of her birthday - she wishes you to donate to Give India.
Matt (May 20) and Emily (May 12) also have birthdays this month. When time comes closer - we will honor their birthdays.
-
Camille is the host of Hallmark Heartbeats - a podcast about Hallmark Channel movies. Go check it out if you love Hallmark movies. She's @hallmarkheartbeats on Instagram. You can also support her on Buy Me A Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/hmarkheartbeats, and is on all the same platforms you can find us!
-
No word on renewal - but we are optimistic. Remember, we didn't get renewed for season 4 until after the finale last year. Spring upfronts are coming - so we should know more soon!

-
In this podcast we discuss The Resident 4x10 - "Into the Unknown".
Written by Emily Pressley and Andrew Chapman
Directed by Kelli Williams
-
- Shaunette's last episode and her request for Mina to be written out. We also could tell from her tweets last summer that this was coming. We discuss how Mina was written out and our opinions on why Shaunette felt the way she did about the way Mina was written.
- #Minator and why is happened so quickly.
- AJ's mom has stage 4 lung cancer. How will this effect AJ?
- Devon is playing The Bachelor again and this time his date is his intern, Leela. We talk about our opinions on this.
- Cain lies to Kit about his recovery and both Billie and Rose know he did it. Billie picks up his slack when it shows during surgery and saves the life of a lifeguard with a spine injury. Will Bille rat him out to Kit?
- Rose gets into a clinical trial for sickle cell with the help of Devon. However, doesn't Devon's friend remind you of Gordon Page?

Season 3 Episode 9: Hero Moments "Letting go of the Past"
Monday Mar 08, 2021
Monday Mar 08, 2021
In this week's podcast, Kayla is back. She's still suffering from long-term effects of COVID, but we are glad she's back.
In this week's podcast, we talk about episode 4X07 Hero Moments written by Marqui Jackson and Marc Halsey. Directed by Edward Ornellas
We express our disappointment in the military background storyline with Conrad and Nate. Like really? Two minute conversation? Come on. We waited four seasons for more military story, and that was it. (Great job on the stunts)
Minator takes the next step in their relationship. Mina and the Raptor team up to do a quadruple valve bypass but when AJ was called in to help Conrad, Mina did a solo and rocked it
Devin's patient comes in with sickle cell anemia and needs hip surgery, which further adds complications. And is this The Bachelor season for Devin? Lol.
We meet Jake's husband and why Jake might have reluctance in letting Bell back in his life. Also with a little bit of Kit's help, there's some progress
Also Cain woke up seeking revenge on his whistleblower.
Trigger Warning:
At the end of this podcast, Camille has to address a tweet that one of the writers for the show put out. References rape and sexual harassment.

Season 3, Episode 7 - Home Before Dark: All the Feels
Monday Feb 15, 2021
Monday Feb 15, 2021
In this week's podcast, Kayla is back - but with a PSA about Covid after having spent the last two weeks in quarantine sick with it.
* Please be safe about this. I got lucky it didnt get worse than it did, but just be safe about it. It's nothing to joke about. I still have neurological symptoms from it and will for a while. Also, I did all the things recommended and still got it. So, just goes to show how contagious it really is.*
-
In this week's podcast we talk episode 4x05 - "Home Before Dark". Written by Amy Holden Jones and Andrew Chapman. Directed by Leslie Libman.
Episode was dedicated to Amy's late husband Michael Chapman who was an award winning director of photography who had worked with Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese. He passed back in September.
-
Topics:
- CoNic and Nic getting stabbed (we both cried on this episode). Also, Kyle's reaction to learning he has a granddaughter. Matt's acting on this episode deserves an award! The way the whole team rallied around them proves these characters love each other like family.
- Minator and how they were handling the changes around them as well as Nic being hurt. The support they showed each other was so amazing.
- The hospital closing - we went into this episode knowing the hospital was moving to a public hospital - but seeing it in process of closing didn't change how we felt about it. We love that Marshall came in with the hail Mary and talked to the new governor of GA and got her to agree to the hospital becoming public.
- Henry and the suprising solution from a suprising source that saved his life. Cain's suggestion of using glue gave Henry a few more years on his life.
- Cain's awake, but trached. He worries about Nic and gives a solution to AJ and Mina on Henry. He ends up at the vent farm because the hospital shut down and he can't breathe on his own. Is this Karma or something else?
- Kit and Bell help each other through this ordeal and lean on each other and we love it!

Season 3, Episode 4 - Mina's Kangaroo Court and Mina's Verdict
Monday Jan 25, 2021
Monday Jan 25, 2021
This week, Brittany returns to step in for Camille. She and Kayla discuss everything about episode 4x02 of The Resident, titled "Mina's Kangaroo Court".
-
Note: We recorded this podcast episode on January 17, 2021 - two days before it aired on Fox. We got to do this because Fox put it up early on Hulu. It's a rare opportunity when we get to do this, so we are cherishing it.
*When we have guests, sometimes their opinions don't align with ours.*
-
4x02 was written by Peter Elkhoff & Marqui Jackson. Directed by Rob Corn.
-
In this podcast:
- Mina plays judge, jury and executioner on Cain and we agree with her verdict. He doesn't need to be practicing medicine anymore. He's broken his hypocritic oath many times over.
- Mina tells the patient from 4x01 about Cain's unsavory past against AJ's wishes and the patient and his wife sue the hospital. We cheer Mina on for following her morals.
- AJ notes he and Cain have a brotherhood as the only black, male surgeons in the hospital - which is why he's so reluctant to go after Cain. Mina reminds AJ she is Nigerian and that her experience with racism is different, which is why she has no hesitation doing what she did.
- Minator take a break from the sexual aspect of their relationship, but not the relationship. They are still an item. Also we loved how unemotional their barganing was about how many nights they would be apart.
- Conic enjoy newlywed life after returning from their honeymoon in Key West, Florida. Conrad thinks married sex is better and Nic still is having trouble calling Conrad her husband.
- The big reveal of the episode - Conic are having a baby! They are getting their rainbow baby. We expect a not so easy pregnancy for Nic as she's had a miscarriage once before. We are going along for the ride to see how the show handles this plot.
- Conrad and Devon treat a black, female congresswoman who is running in a special election for the governor of Georgia - who is also having an affair with her driver. A secret she doesn't want out there. However, Conrad assures her doctor/patient confidentiality prevents him from saying a word. It's a PSA from the writers to not lie to your doctor.
- Devon is battling his grief over his dad and reveals to Conrad that his father could've survived had he been in a better hospital with more nurses.
- Logan Kim is toast!! He's gone, but Conrad leaves him with words of wisdom that Kayla notes sound a lot like something her dad once told her.
- Kit is trying to get the CEO position - but Red Rock isn't too keen on replacing Kim due to the hospital's finances.
- Bell does a life reassesment and goes to find his former step son (played by Conrad Ricamora). Their reunion is very cold, but Bell realizes he may have had more influence on Jake than he thought since he became a plastic surgeon. He was worried about Jake's ability to support himself since Jake is also an amatuer musician.
- Also, Kitdolph. They are so cute encouraging each other.

Next week: "Support System", Episode 3x19

Monday Nov 30, 2020
Monday Nov 30, 2020
In this podcast, we wrap up discussing season 1 with episode 1x14 - "Total Eclipse of the Heart". Written by Amy Holden Jones and Andrew Chapman. Directed by Rob Corn.
- Micah's return and Mina being emotionally compromised during Micah's surgery. We both agree that without Micah, the hope of #Minator wouldn't exist.
- Nic's time in jail helping her prison guard save her girlfriend's life. Also, Conrad goes to Marshall for Nic's bail, which Marshall gladly paid if it means he can get closer to his son.
- That #CoNic scene in the on call room had major throwback vibes to the pilot. Was there a plan in place in case renewal didn't happen?
- Lane's arrest at the hands of Bell with the help of Nic, Conrad, Devon and Priya. Bell takes all the credit though. Also, how many patients were truly affected by Lane's fraud??
- Marshall becomes chairman of the board. Can we get him back to help straighten out Chastain??

Monday Nov 23, 2020
Monday Nov 23, 2020
Happy Thanksgiving to all our listeners!!
-
TOP NEWS:
- The S4 premiere promo!!
-
In this podcast, we celebrate Thanksgiving by discussing episode 3x08, "Peking Duck Day". Directed by David Crabtree and written by Elizabeth Klaviter and Michael Notarile.
- AJ's bio and adopted families meet for the first time
- #CoNic's "sexy Thanksgiving" is interrupted by Kyle and a girl who reminds us a lot of Jessie. Kyle and Nic discuss how hard this holiday is for them, especially since it's the first one since Jessie's passing.
- Conrad and AJ save the life of #CoNic's neighbor's son
- #Feldmore's Thanksgiving with friends and football while Jessica recovers from her wreck
- Thanksgiving is the worst holiday for injuries that send you to the ER. Be careful this year - especially with the pandemic overloading hospitals - and don't deep fry your turkey frozen.
- Logan Kim wants Torres to operate on their VIP patient who has a fully intact turkey wishbone in his throat that needs surgical removal. Bell makes Kim realize why his experience is needed during the case.
- Mina and Bell prefer work over celebrating the holiday.
- We believe this episode fully incorporates everything Thanksgiving is: family, food and football.

- Bell fires Nic at the end of the episode.
- Devon does an internist rotation in the ER and Nurse Hundley and Irving are taking bets on how he does with each patient. -
- Devon also has a patient who is a hypochondriac that eventually leads them to rat out Lane's practice of diagnosing people with cancer who don't have it.
- Bell sets a patient on fire in the OR and tries to put the blame on everyone and everything, but him. Eventually, Bell has Chu defending him and calls out Claire for her lack of funding on new equipment. The patient, however, at least can find a way to laugh about it.

Next week: "And the Nurses Get Screwed" Discussion, episode 1x11.

Monday Oct 19, 2020
Monday Oct 19, 2020
TOP NEWS:
- They are back on set to tape season 4, and along with it comes strict new protocols to prevent a COVID-19 outbreak on set. Things like 3x per week testing for cast and crew and wearing shields and masks. We do wonder though, what will this new season look like with these protocols in place?
- Conrad Ricamora from How to Get Away with Murder is cast in a recurring role as Dr. Jake Wong, a gay plastic surgeon who is also an amateur musician. Oh, and Bell's former step son. What will this new character bring to the show? We're glad to see more LGBTQ representation. We're also wondering what this will bring to Bell's background. Also, is adding another new character too much?
-
This podcast is part 1 of 2 of our Halloween special. In this one, we discuss "Nightmares", episode 2x06. Directed by David Crabtree and written by Todd Harthan and Andrew Chapman.
- Mina's crazy Halloween party
- Nic worries about her newly sober sister at the party so much she has a panic attack. Can we talk more about Nic's mental health? This was a dropped opportunity.
- Jessie begins to relapse in this episode.
- All of Mina's rules are broken when she leaves to perform emergency surgery. From Irving's crazy costumes to a drink spilled on her rug, it's been a 'nightmare' of a night for everyone.
- Laurie Dante and the teratoma - why we're glad Conrad kept digging and didn't just stop with a schizophrenia diagnosis.
- #CoNic - the conversation about Halloween at the beginning of the episode is adorable and Nic helped calm Conrad down after his nightmare.
- Marshall's late to meet up with Conrad and both us Conrad want to know why. He also calls Conrad out on how closed off he is.
- Conrad's nightmare - Please discuss Conrad's mom in season 4! We need answers - like last year.
- Halloween is one of the worst nights in the ER for medical emergencies, which is something Devon learns quickly when he's only left with Nurse Hundley and Mason, the med student, as back up and a wise cracking AJ during a case with a patient needing two of his limbs reattached.
- AJ, Mina, Bell and Kit reattach the limbs and save the man's life bringing about emotions for Kit to reach out to her own children and grandchild.
- Bell, Grayson and Grayson's mother
- We meet Grayson for the first time and along with it he pimps out his mother for a date with Bell. Only Bell has no clue of the connection until after he had slept with her. We also discuss some of the BTS provided to us from Radek and Bruce about this episode. Also, why are you watching porn on the job, Bell? And why does Grayson know the server blocks it?
-
Camille is having surgery on her foot this week to help remove her bone infection. Keep her in your thoughts and prayers for a successful surgery.

Next week: Part 2 of our Halloween Special - "Belief System", Episode 3x04.

Monday Sep 28, 2020
Monday Sep 28, 2020
TOP NEWS:
- We send our deepest condolences to Amy Holden Jones and her family on the passing of her husband, Michael Chapman. He was a famed director of photography on movies like Taxi Driver and Jaws.
- Kayla's uncle passed away last Sunday. It's been a rough week, but we promised a podcast to you, so she pushed through to provide you with the best podcast she's capable of giving - as a co-host and as the editor.
-
In this podcast, we discuss episode 1x10, "Haunted". Directed by David Crabtree and written by Andrew Chapman.
- The team deals with the death of Lily - which causes Conrad to see her "ghost". Also, Lane Hunter is pushing for an autopsy, which has us wondering why. Wouldn't she want to hide her insurance fraud?
- Conrad sprains his ankle after he gets hit by bicyclist while running and forgoes treatment until everyone around him forces him to get it. He does put a shot of cortisone in it to help with pain. Nic finally is able to ice and bandage the ankle after they finish their shift.
- #CoNic - They discuss their grief, which allows them to grow closer and they end up sleeping together at the end of the episode.
- Dr. Eileen Jacoby, one of Conrad's mentors and former professors, is seeing the "ghosts" of patients she feels regret that she couldn't save. Ends up being a bleed in her frontal lobe, and Conrad also helps her get therapy. She also begins to help him cope with losing Lily. Also, Mina's a bit of a fan girl and credits Dr. Jacoby for her wanting to be a surgeon.
- Bell operates on the 2nd richest man in China at Chastain and ends up almost killing him. His ego is so much that when Jude jumps in to help save the patient, Bell and him argue and Jude gets fired. Bell fixes the problem and takes full credit. Also, a $10,000 watch - which is illegal.
- Bell's now on Xanax. Is this where the tremor went? Was it stress induced?
- Jude's last episode - He is fired by Bell and goes to help with Doctors without Borders, but not before pushing Conrad to talk to Nic about Lily's death.
- Lane and Bell? Ewwwww! The kiss is gross! She's also pushing for him to be CEO and push Claire out.
-
Not gonna lie, this episode was hard to watch, but it makes us say please hold those dear to you close. Tell them you love them and don't say things you will regret later. You never know when it will end.
-
We will be taking a two week hiatus to deal with exhaustion and personal issues. We will return at the end of October with our two part Halloween special that discusses "Nightmares" (2x06) and "Belief System" (3x04).
-
There's a tentative start date of the second week of October to start production on season 4 of The Resident. Keep an eye on the Facebook group and Camille's Instagram for the latest news from set!

TOP NEWS:
- Happy belated birthday, Amy Holden Jones!
- We discuss the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and how it leaves not only a gap in the US Supreme Court, but a gap in the fight for women's equality. Please vote in the upcoming election because whoever replaces her is appointed by the President. We need someone that will fight for equality and rights of women the way Ruth did without shame.
-
In this podcast we discuss episode 1x08 of The Resident, "Family Affair". Teleplay by Nkechi Okoro Carroll and Zach Latsky, Story by Kevin Falls.
- Devon's Parents
- Chastain holds a fundraising gala, which has Mina in a fabulous gold dress.
- Jane Doe turns out to be part of influential wealthy family, who was misdiagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Conrad and Nic diagnose her properly with Wegener's Disease, a rare auto immune disease. Also, Bell's a hypocrite for wanting to dump her until he knows she has money to pay the bills. Something he fusses at another hospital for doing.
- A male escort that Devon and Irving are treating for an eye injury teaches Devon to not be embarrassed by his parents and their cultural views.
- Micah returns for a check up and tries to get Mina to go out with him on a date.

Next Week: Episode 1x10 Discussion, "Haunted"

Monday Sep 14, 2020
Monday Sep 14, 2020
This week, we discuss The Resident episode 1x07, titled "The Elopement". Written by Kevin Falls and directed by Rob Corn.
-
- #MeToo - Nic gets harassed by a VIP Patient, who happens to be a famous baseball player who sends her unsolicited dick pics. Conrad comes to her defense, but was it his right to do so, since he is not her boyfriend in this episode? Also, Nic goes and defends herself to him as well, which we believe Nic can do all on her own. Also, Conrad reports it to Bell and gets back "she shouldn't have given him her number". Nic never asked him for dick pics, she asked for autographs for some kids. Seriously, Bell?
- #CoNic - Conrad still loves Nic, and wants to spend his last days with her. Even with this, Conrad sleeps with Noni - and Nic notes she never slept with Jude. Also, the older couple of the episode think they make a cute couple - despite the fact that they aren't one in this episode.
- Lane Hunter and the man with stage IV lung cancer - A man is diagnosed with lung cancer and declines treatment in favor of spending his last days with his loved ones where he isn't trapped in a hospital. Hunter forces a biopsy and Jude accidentally ruptures his lung in the process. He survives, and Jude feels horrible about rupturing the patient's lung. Conrad is honest with the patient and he decides to elope from the hospital - and declines more treatment. Episode title comes from this plot meaning to leave a hospital without being discharged. Also, Conrad believes Nic about her suspicions on her.
- Bell deals with withdrawal from Benzos.
- Claire pushes for transparency, which is backed by Bell.
- Mina decides to not do surgeries for a while. Promises to never remove the wrong organ again.

We need to take a break. We are exhausted. Camille has a bone infection, and is on IV antibiotics. Kayla's working lots of OT, and will be moving soon. We'll be back, but we need a break for the first two weeks of October. We hope everyone understands.

Next week: Episode 1x08 Discussion, "Family Affair"

Monday Sep 07, 2020
Season 2, Episode 21 - Ring the Bell: An Interview with Bruce Greenwood
Monday Sep 07, 2020
Monday Sep 07, 2020
During this week's podcast, we are joined by actor Bruce Greenwood - who plays our favorite HODAD to hero - Dr. Randolph Bell. Thanks for joining us, Bruce. It was an honor.
During the interview, Bruce talks his long, storied career. We discuss the fact that he's played the POTUS 3x (and if he'd ever be a politician). He can't actually be POTUS because he's Canadian, but we had to ask him if he'd consider Canadian politics. Oh, and maybe even some National Treasure rumors!
We also talk Star Trek, and some awesome BTS from filming the new movies that gave Camille "chicken skin" (aka goosebumps). We are both HUGE Star Trek fans, so getting to talk to Bruce about his work on the new movies was a dream come true!
Of course, we talk Bell! The development, working with Melina Kanakaredes and Jane Leeves and his hopes for his character's future. Also, some BTS from set and even an impromptu concert from Bruce on the guitar!!
Interview recorded: August 22, 2020
